Branches of the Center for Economic Research and Reforms will open in five regions of Uzbekistan

This is an important event in the twenty-year history of the country’s leading think tank center. The tasks of the Center for Economic Research and Reforms have expanded, its role and responsibility has increased in the formation and implementation of ongoing reforms and socio-economic development of Uzbekistan.

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan 13.08.2021 №PP-5223 Resolution "On additional measures to improve the quality and role of economic research in socio-economic development" assigned additional tasks to the Center for Economic Research and Reform (Center).

The decision was made to radically improve the quality of socio-economic reform initiatives, the effectiveness of ongoing reforms, as well as the development of programs for regions, sectors and industries in 2022-2026 on the basis of science-based innovative approaches.

Among the additional tasks, the President instructed the Center for Economic Research and Reforms to consistently provide scientifically based proposals and recommendations of local authorities in the development of programs aimed at accelerating the process of socio-economic development in the regions.

The center's research will focus on developing proposals for the creation of new production chains in various sectors of the economy.

The Center will study the impact of Uzbekistan's accession to the world economy on the national economy and provide science-based proposals and recommendations in these areas to the competent authorities;

The Center for Economic Research and Reforms develops and submits scientifically based proposals to the competent authorities through an in-depth analysis of best international practices in the development of cluster activities in industry.

Using modern information technology and an integrated interagency database, the Center for Economic Research and Reforms is expected to provide business analysis to local governments to address pressing issues.

It was agreed to establish in the structure of the Center for Economic Research and Reforms:

- Department of Industrial Cluster Development;
- IT technology introduction and database integration department;
- Public Relations and Marketing Department;
- Regional branches of the Center in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Jizzakh, Namangan, Samarkand and Kashkadarya regions.

The resolution also approved the new composition of the Center, the total number of employees 75, including the number of researchers 61.

Currently, the activities of the Center are positively assessed both in the country and abroad. Thus, in 2020, the Center for Economic Research and Reforms was included in the list of 10 best think tanks in Central Asia and the Caucasus, improving its performance in 2016 by three points (at that time the center was in 13th place).

Center for Economic Research and Reforms was transformed into the Center for Economic Research and Reforms under the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Uzbekistan by the Presidential Decree dated October 3, 2019.

Since 1998, the Center for Economic Research and Reforms has been publishing the journal Economic Review, Review.uz (https://review.uz/), an electronic version of the journal.
