SpaceX Revenue More Than Doubles (Deutsche Welle)

In the third quarter of 2026, SpaceX revenue increased by 161% to $14.58 billion. Net profit reached $4.4 billion, more than twice analysts’ forecasts. Following the release of its financial results, the company’s shares rose by 4%.

Revenue from artificial intelligence activities increased more than ninefold to $7.6 billion, primarily driven by the leasing of computing capacity. The expansion of the Starlink satellite network also contributed to revenue growth.

SpaceX capital expenditure reached $19.6 billion, including $16.4 billion allocated to AI infrastructure. In June, the company conducted the largest initial public offering (IPO) in history. Its market valuation is estimated at $2 trillion.

South Korean Companies Upgrade Memory Chip Production in China (Reuters)

By the end of 2027, Samsung plans to increase production capacity for 286-layer NAND flash memory chips to 40,000 semiconductor wafers per month at its plant in Xi’an, China. These chips are used for data storage in smartphones, computers, and data centers. Another South Korean company, SK Hynix, plans to transition to 240-layer memory chip production at its plant in Dalian, China.

According to analytics firm Omdia, Chinese memory chip manufacturer Yangtze Memory Technologies (YMTC) increased its share of China’s domestic NAND market from 28% in 2025 to 38.5% in the second quarter of 2026. Meanwhile, the market shares of Samsung and SK Hynix declined to 33.5% and 17%, respectively.

Upgrades to the plants in China depend on U.S. export authorizations. U.S. restrictions require licenses for supplying advanced semiconductor manufacturing equipment to China.

EU Unveils Updated Arctic Development Strategy (European Commission)

On October 20, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen presented the EU’s updated Arctic strategy, marking its first revision in five years.

The European Union will invest €200 million in Greenland to develop renewable energy, raw material extraction, transport infrastructure, and housing construction. The strategy also provides for the installation of a submarine cable connecting Greenland and Europe.

Under the European Defence Fund, €260 million has been allocated for technology development, aviation, and equipment. Plans also include expanding the icebreaker fleet and satellite monitoring systems.

The strategy further envisages accelerating the Rail Nordica railway project, developing transport and digital networks, strengthening supply chains for critical minerals, and protecting the Arctic environment.

Rising Imports of Chinese Antibiotics Threaten Penicillin Production in Europe (Reuters)

According to Eurostat, China’s share of EU imports of penicillins and their derivatives increased from 44% in 2019 to 86% in 2025. Europe’s only fully integrated penicillin production plant, located in Austria and owned by Swiss pharmaceutical company Sandoz, faces growing competition from Chinese manufacturers.

Despite €200 million invested in expanding the facility, profitability remains under pressure from low-priced imports and high electricity costs. In 2025, electricity prices for energy-intensive industries in the EU were 50% higher than in China. European public procurement systems also prioritize the lowest prices for pharmaceutical products.

In March 2026, Sandoz filed a complaint with the European Commission alleging dumping by Chinese amoxicillin manufacturers. The company is seeking an anti-dumping investigation and the potential introduction of protective tariffs. China rejects allegations of unfair competition, maintaining that its industrial support measures comply with World Trade Organization (WTO) rules.
