April Maintained Growth in Business Activity in Uzbekistan

The Business Activity Index (BAI), calculated by the Center for Economic Research and Reforms (CERR), reached 1,065 points in April 2026, increasing by 6.5% compared to the previous month (while growth compared to the corresponding period last year amounted to 22%, Chart No.1).

In April 2026, the following changes were observed across the BAI components:

  • the component reflecting the number of transactions on business entities’ bank accounts increased by 8.3%;
  • the intensity of raw material purchases on the commodity exchange increased by 5.4%;

  • the component reflecting active business entities increased by 1.7%;

  • the trademark component increased by 33.9%.

In addition, in April 2026, growth in the BAI compared to the previous month was observed across all regions of the country (Chart No.2). In particular, significant growth was recorded in Karakalpakstan (46.2%), Namangan (43.0%), Jizzakh (41.1%) and Syrdarya regions (38.1%) (Tables No.1 and No.2).

The number of interbank payment transactions during the reporting period amounted to 7,641.3 thousand, which is 588.8 thousand transactions (8.3%) more compared to March 2026.

Growth in the number of interbank payment transactions was recorded in 12 regions. In particular, a noticeable increase in the number of banking transactions between legal entities compared to the previous month was observed in Tashkent city (9.8%), Tashkent region (9.1%), Syrdarya region (9.0%) and Karakalpakstan (8.1%). At the same time, this indicator decreased by 4.4% in Khorezm region and by 3.7% in Andijan region.

The exchange component of the BAI amounted to 1.0543 points, increasing by 5.4% compared to the previous month. At the same time, the average volume of goods purchased per transaction increased by 15.0%, while the number of concluded transactions decreased by 4.1%.

The total trading volume for 34 major commodity types on the UzEx amounted to 8.532 trillion sums, which is 14.4% higher compared to the previous month.

The main factor behind the increase in exchange trading activity was the growth in sales volumes of industrial oil by 208.5 times compared to the previous month, bitumen by 2.6 times, cotton oil by 1.9 times and diesel fuel by 1.6 times.

The component reflecting active business entities amounted to 1.0170 points during the reporting period, increasing by 1.7% compared to the previous month.

At the same time:

  • the total number of active business entities increased by 3,682 units and reached 514.7 thousand;
  • the number of large enterprises increased by 221 and reached 4,940;
  • the number of small enterprises increased by 3.6 thousand and reached 420.9 thousand.
  • the number of farms decreased by 141 and amounted to 88.9 thousand.

The trademark component amounted to 1.3392 points, increasing by 33.9% compared to the previous month. During the reporting period, legal entities registered 529 trademarks and product names.
