The Center for Economic Research and Reforms presented its regular review of Uzbekistan’s automotive market.
Since the beginning of the year, from January to May, total sales of all types of motor vehicles in the country amounted to 416.5 thousand units, down 2.5% compared with the same period last year.
Regional trends remained uneven. Growth in activity was recorded in 5 out of 14 regions. In Tashkent, sales remained at the level of the same period last year.
The strongest growth since the beginning of the year was recorded in Fergana Region, at 6.5%, and Samarkand Region, at 5.2%. At the same time, a marked decline was observed in Syrdarya Region, at 22.3%, Khorezm Region, at 16.7%, and Jizzakh Region, at 16%.
Situation in the primary automotive market
Sales of new passenger cars declined by almost 13% over the month and amounted to 21.6 thousand units.
The bulk of sales was generated by domestically produced vehicles. In particular, sales of new locally manufactured passenger cars reached 16.8 thousand units in May, while sales of new imported passenger cars amounted to 4.8 thousand units.
At the same time, activity in the segment of new foreign-manufactured passenger cars increased by more than 34% compared with the previous month.
