Component Breakdown of the BAI
The sharp 19% increase in the Business Activity Index in March 2025 was driven by the following component changes:

The number of banking transactions by business entities decreased by 3%;

The intensity of raw material purchases on the commodity exchange rose significantly by 47.8%;

The component related to active business entities increased by 4.6%;
-
The trademark registration component declined by 3.7%.
Syrdarya Region Recorded the Highest Growth Among Regions
The Business Activity Index increased in all 14 regions of Uzbekistan compared to the previous month.
In particular, Syrdarya (45.5%), Andijan (42.8%), Kashkadarya (42.2%), Jizzakh (41.1%), and Bukhara (40.4%) regions demonstrated the most notable growth.
BANKING OPERATIONS
The number of interbank payment transactions reached 5.92 million, a decrease of 184,400 transactions (or 3%) compared to February 2025.
In nine regions, the number of banking transactions declined month-on-month.
However, in five regions, the number of banking operations between legal entities increased. In particular, Syrdarya (7%), Andijan (4.4%), and Bukhara (3%) regions showed the most noticeable growth.
Conversely, the number of transactions declined in Fergana (-7.2%), Surkhandarya (-7.1%), and the Republic of Karakalpakstan (-4.1%).
COMMODITY EXCHANGE ACTIVITY
The exchange component of the BAI stood at 1.4786, indicating a 47.8% increase from the previous month. This surge is attributed to a 12.5% decrease in the average physical volume per transaction and a 2.1-fold increase in the number of transactions.
The total turnover on the Republican Commodity Exchange amounted to 7.39 trillion sums, which is 9.8% higher than the previous month.
BUSINESS ENTITY ACTIVITY
The component reflecting active business entities reached 1.0460, up 4.6% from the previous month. Year-on-year, this indicator rose 6.2%.
The number of operating business entities increased by 3,115 units compared to February 2025 (from 466,181 to 469,296).
Number of Large Enterprises Increased by 642
During the reporting period, the number of small enterprises rose from 370,364 to 372,887, an increase of 2,523. The number of farms slightly declined from 91,775 to 91,725 (down by 50). The number of large operating enterprises reached 4,684, up by 642 compared to February 2025.
TRADEMARK REGISTRATION
The trademark protection index stood at 0.9631, indicating a 3.7% decline compared to the previous month.
In March, 339 trademarks and trade names were registered by legal entities.
