Accelerator Laboratory Activities Were Discussed at CERR

The meeting was also attended by UNDP Resident Representative in Uzbekistan Matilda Dimovska, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Uzbekistan Doina Munteanu and UNDP Project Manager in Uzbekistan Diora Kabulova.

From the Uzbek side, the meeting was attended by the leaders and researchers of the Center for Economic Research and Reforms, of the Center for Scientific Foundations and Problems of the Development of the Economy of Uzbekistan under the Tashkent State University of Economics, of the National Movement “Yuksalish”, of the Institute of Fiscal Research under the Ministry of Finance, and of the Institute of Forecasting and Macroeconomic Research under the Ministry of Economy and Industry of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The purpose of the meeting was to familiarize Mr. Abdoulaye Mar Dieye with the activities of research institutions and think tanks of Uzbekistan, exchange views on various issues related to the role of research centers in the development of the country, UNDP cooperation with Uzbekistan in the field of scientific and analytical support in preparation of government decisions, and also to discuss areas of further cooperation.

During the conversation, Director of the CERR Dr. Obid Khakimov introduced the activities of the CERR and its new tasks set in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Measures to Improve the Quality and Role of Economic Research in Social and Economic Development” from October 3, 2019. Dr. Obid Khakimov also emphasized on high attention paid by the Government of Uzbekistan to the development of activities of scientific and analytical institutions in the country.

In turn, Mr. Abdoulaye Mar Dieye highly appreciated the ongoing large-scale reforms in Uzbekistan, and also welcomed the decisions of the Government of Uzbekistan to support the activities of scientific and analytical centers. Also he spoke about the most important development initiative of UNDP, such as creation of accelerator laboratories, which have already been created in 60 countries.

Activities of the accelerator laboratories implies creation of a platform for collective discussion and decision making on current problems with interested participants, given that they have a greater understanding about the nature of the problems and ways how to solve them.

During the meeting, UNDP representatives expressed their readiness to support actively the research centers of Uzbekistan in establishing close relations with UNDP Global Centers of Economic Policy, which make great contribution to the development of advisory functions and provide evidence-based analytical materials for UNDP’s global positioning and formulating its status in global development processes.

It should be noted that UNDP also collaborates with international rating agencies in revision of the methodology of assessments by including development components into key indicators.

According to Mr. Abdoulaye Mar Dieye, international rating agencies should evaluate the country’s ability to develop the economy not only from the standpoint of the availability of profit opportunities of the country, but also from the standpoint of the conditions created for sustainable development in the country, as for instance it is made in Uzbekistan.

Following the meeting, the distinguished guest expressed UNDP’s readiness to support fully the processes related to the development of Uzbekistan, including the strengthening of research potential, with taking into consideration successful experience of the reforms carried out in Uzbekistan over the past three years, which can be a great example for other developing countries.

Note: In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Measures to Improve the Quality and Role of Economic Research in Social and Economic Development” from October 3, 2019, an Accelerator of Socio-Economic Reforms with a working body in the structure of the Center for Economic Research and Reforms is being created under the Administration of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The accelerator mobilizes the resources of state bodies and organizations for boosting, operating and effective solution of acute problems in the field of socio-economic development.
