Meeting with the UN Assistant Secretary-General and Director of the UNDP Regional Office for Europe and the CIS

On June 15, the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction hosted a meeting of Deputy Prime Minister-Minister of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Jamshid Kuchkarov with a delegation led by UN Assistant Secretary-General and Director of the UNDP Regional Office for Europe and the CIS Mirjana Spolyarich Egger.

The meeting was also attended by First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Ilkhom Norkulov, Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Bobur Abdinazarov, Deputy Minister of Finance Akhadbek Haidarov and Director of the Institute of Forecasting and Macroeconomic Research Umid Abidkhodjayev.

The UNDP delegation also included the Permanent Representative of the Program in the Republic of Uzbekistan, Matilda Dimovska, her Deputy, Doina Munteanu, and others.

At the beginning of the meeting, Mirjana Spolyarich Egger noted that UNDP welcomes the strong commitment of the Government in implementing measures to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the desire of Uzbekistan to join the top group of middle-income countries. She also confirmed the readiness of the UNDP headquarters and its representative office in Uzbekistan to provide support in this matter.

During the meeting, Mirjana Spolyarich Egger emphasized the need to implement the Comprehensive National SDG Financing Mechanism, which will allow to closely link the country's financial resources with the long-term development strategy, timely identify additional needs for financial resources, and take measures to create conditions for attracting private and other investments in this process.

In addition, an important topic of discussion was the issue of the relevance of strengthening cooperation in the framework of the 'green' economic recovery, as well as the introduction of digital and innovative technologies. At the same time, Mirjana Spolyarich Egger expressed the readiness of UNDP to support the Government by providing technical assistance to strengthen institutional capacity in this area and providing other types of assistance.

In the course of the conversation, Mirjana Spolyarich Egger praised the state policy on supporting women and ensuring gender equality.

She expressed the firm intention of UNDP to become a major partner in enhancing the role of women in society by organizing training and educational programs, taking into account trends and changes in the labor market in the near future.

Following the meeting, the parties decided to organize working meetings within two weeks to develop a joint action plan for the implementation of practical measures of cooperation in the above-mentioned areas.
