Trade between Uzbekistan and South Asian countries increased 3.2-fold over nine years (2016–2025), reaching $3.5 bn. During this period, Uzbekistan’s exports to the region tripled to $2 bn, while imports rose 4.1 times to $1.5 bn.
The main categories of Uzbekistan’s exports to South Asia include food products worth $976.4 mln (48.1%), petroleum products at $368 mln (18.1%), transport services totaling $277.8 mln (13.7%), as well as industrial goods worth $140.5 mln (6.9%) and chemical products amounting to $134.9 mln (6.6%).
The main import categories from South Asian countries include chemical products worth $477.6 mln (32.2%), food products totaling $391.4 mln (26.4%), machinery and equipment at $309.1 mln (20.8%), as well as other goods worth $99 mln (6.7%) and manufactured products amounting to $67 mln (4.5%).
In 2025, the largest share of trade turnover with Afghanistan consisted of Uzbekistan’s exports, making Afghanistan a highly beneficial trade and economic partner. Afghanistan ranked first in Uzbekistan’s trade with South Asian countries, accounting for $1.7 bn, or 47.7% of total trade turnover with the region. Uzbekistan’s food exports to Afghanistan reached $712.7 mln, while Afghanistan accounted for 75.5% of Uzbekistan’s food exports to South Asia.
Trade and economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and India has also developed dynamically in recent years. India ranked second in Uzbekistan’s trade with South Asian countries. In 2025, bilateral trade turnover reached $1.3 bn (37.5%).
Pakistan ranked third among South Asian countries in terms of trade turnover with Uzbekistan, reaching $445.9 mln, or 12.7%. In 2025, Uzbekistan’s exports to Pakistan included food products worth $260.2 mln, industrial goods totaling $21.2 mln, services amounting to $30.1 mln, industrial goods worth $21.2 mln, and non-food raw materials valued at $13.2 mln.
Imports from Pakistan in 2025 included food products worth $56.2 mln, chemical products totaling $45.3 mln, industrial goods amounting to $6.4 mln, as well as various manufactured products worth $5.2 mln.

The volume of foreign direct investment and loans from South Asian countries into Uzbekistan over the past nine years totaled $1.3 bn, including $510 mln in 2025 alone. The largest contributions came from India with $586.7 mln and Afghanistan with $519.2 mln.
In addition, to strengthen connectivity with South Asia, the following facilities have been established in the city of Termez: the Ayritom International Trade Center, the Termez Cargo Center international multifunctional transport and logistics hub, and an educational center for Afghan citizens.
