Moderate Decline in Uzbekistan's Business Activity Index

Changes in BAI Components:

  • The number of banking transactions by business entities decreased by 2.1%;
  • The volume of raw material purchases on the commodity exchange declined by 1.7%;
  • The component reflecting active business entities increased by 0.9%;
  • The trademark component dropped by 14.1%.

Regional Dynamics

Kashkadarya region demonstrated the highest growth. In total, the Business Activity Index increased in 9 regions in June. Significant growth was recorded in Kashkadarya (+43.8%), Andijan (+41.4%) and Namangan (+37%) regions.

At the same time, a decline was observed in Syrdarya (-7.2%), Jizzakh (-4.9%) and Bukhara (-4.4%) regions.

BANKING OPERATIONS

During the reporting period, the number of interbank payment transactions amounted to 6,309.4 thousand, which is 135.8 thousand transactions (–2.1%) less than in May.

A decline in banking operations of legal entities was recorded in 9 regions, with the most notable drops in Jizzakh (-7.3%), Namangan (-4.2%) regions, Republic of Karakalpakstan (-3.9%) and Tashkent city (-2.8%).

COMMODITY EXCHANGE ACTIVITY

In June, the exchange component of the BAI stood at 0.9833 points, reflecting a 1.7% decline compared to the previous month. This decline was due to a 3.8% increase in the average transaction volume and a 7.2% decrease in the number of concluded deals.

The total trading volume on the Republican Commodity Exchange amounted to 6.47 trillion sums, a 21.9% drop compared to May.

ACTIVITY OF BUSINESS ENTITIES

The component related to active business entities reached 1.0088 points in June, indicating a 0.9% increase compared to the previous month.

The total number of active business entities increased by 7,866, from 481,734 to 489,600. The number of large enterprises decreased by 41 units, down to 3,949. The number of small enterprises grew from 385,654 to 393,359, a net increase of 7,705. The number of farm enterprises increased by 202, from 92,090 to 92,292.

TRADEMARK REGISTRATION

In June, the trademark protection index stood at 0.8587, which is 14.1% lower than in the previous month.

During the month, 310 trademarks and trade names were registered by legal entities.
