A moderate increase in business activity has been noted in Uzbekistan

In December 2023, the Business Activity Index (BAI), calculated by the Center for Economic Research and Reform, amounted to 1002 points, and increased by 0.2% compared to the previous month. At the same time, BAI shows stagnation compared to the same period last year.

The following changes were observed in the BAI components

The Business Activity Index in December 2023 increased slightly by 0.2% compared to the previous month and amounted to 1002 points, due to changes in the following components:

the number of transactions on bank accounts of business entities increased by 5,9%;
the component associated with operating business entities increased by 1,2%;
the intensity of the purchase of raw materials on the commodity exchange decreased by 4,9%;
the component of trademarks decreased by 11,7%.

In the regional context, the Tashkent region showed the highest growth

In December 2023, the Business Activity Index for all 14 regions increased compared to the previous month. In particular, Tashkent (45.8%), Samarkand (42.6%), Khorezm (40.8%), Burkhara (40.7%), Kashkadarya (39.5%) regions and in the Republic of Karakalpakstan (35.7%) showed significant growth (Fig.2).

TRANSACTIONS WITH BANK ACCOUNTS

The number of interbank payment transactions in December 2023 amounted to 7,157.5 thousand and increased by 395.9 thousand transactions (an increase of 5.9%), compared with November 2023.

The number of banking operations in 9 regions has increased.

In December 2023, the number of banking transactions between legal entities increased in 8 regions compared to the previous month. In particular, in Navoi (13.2%), Samarkand (7.3%), Tashkent (6.3%) regions and in Tashkent city (7.1%) there was an increase.

At the same time, there was a decrease in the number of banking transactions between legal entities in 6 regions.

ACTIVITY ON THE COMMODITY EXCHANGE

In December, the exchange component of the BAI was 0.9510. This means a decrease in the component level by 4.9% compared to the previous month. This decline is associated with a decrease in the number of transactions by 11.3%. At the same time, the average physical volume of goods purchased in each transaction increased by 1.5%.

At the Republican Commodity Exchange, the total turnover in December amounted to 5,003.7 billion sums.

ACTIVITY OF ECONOMIC ENTITIES

The component of operating business entities in December 2023 decreased by 1.2% compared to the previous month.

The number of large enterprises has decreased by 9 units.

BRAND REGISTRATION

In December 2023, the index of protected trademarks was 1.1167, which means an increase of 11.7% compared to the previous month. This month, 201 trademarks and trade names were registered by legal entities.
