CERR on trends in the automotive market of Uzbekistan

The Center for Economic Research and Reforms regularly presents the results of an analysis of the state of the automotive market in Uzbekistan.

In October, sales of motor vehicles amounted to 102.3 thousand units, which is 7% lower than a month earlier. A more noticeable decrease in activity was noted in annual terms, by more than 44%.

The situation in the passenger car segment

In the passenger car segment, 95.4 thousand units were sold last month with a decline of 6% compared to the previous month, while year-on-year sales show a more noticeable decrease of 43.3%.

Regionally, the largest decrease in sales in this segment was noted in the city of Tashkent (by 18.4%), Ferghana (by 17%) and Andijan (by 14.4%) regions.

The situation in the primary car market

In the primary passenger car market, sales decreased by 15% compared to the previous month, which is 6.2 thousand cars less than a month earlier. In annual terms, activity decreased by 21.8%.

Sales of new cars of domestic production for the month decreased by 20% and amounted to 30.2 thousand cars. In annual terms, there was a decline of 22%.

The segment of passenger cars is growing

October marked a notable rise in sales in the foreign passenger car market. During the month, activity in this segment increased by 35%, 4.7 thousand foreign cars were sold in just a month. However, compared to October last year, sales decreased by 20%.

The secondary market of passenger cars

The situation in the secondary passenger car market in October is characterized by a slowdown in activity and a more pronounced annual decrease in sales volumes.

In October, 60.4 thousand passenger cars were sold in this segment, which is 23 units less than a month earlier, whereas sales decreased by half compared to the same period last year.

The situation on the EV market

The segment of passenger EVs continues to show record growth in activity. In October, sales increased by 20% compared to September, amounting to 5.1 thousand electric cars, while in September 4.24 thousand units were sold, and in August – 1.7 thousand units.

The regional analysis demonstrates the active development of the EV segment, with the largest surge in sales in Namangan and Ferghana regions, as well as in the city of Tashkent.

Sales of EVs increased by 87.5% over the year, which corresponds to an increase of 2.3 thousand units.
