The Business Activity Index (BAI), calculated by CERR, has shown moderate changes since the beginning of the year, reaching 1084 points (+8.4% YoY). This indicates a positive growth trend in business activity across Uzbekistan.

In January 2025, the Business Activity Index (BAI), calculated by the Center for Economic Research and Reforms, stood at 1084 points, marking a significant increase of 8.4% compared to the previous month. Additionally, the BAI grew by 18.6% compared to the same period last year.

Changes in BAI Components

In January 2025, the Business Activity Index saw a notable 8.4% rise compared to the previous month, reaching 1084 points. This increase was driven by the following component changes:

The number of transactions in business bank accounts decreased by 10.9%;
The intensity of raw material procurement on the commodity exchange significantly increased by 33.3%;
The component related to active business entities grew by 1.1%;
The trademark component significantly declined by 45%.

In the regional context, Surkhandarya region showed the highest growth

The Business Activity Index increased in 11 regions compared to the previous month.

Notably, significant growth was observed in Surkhandarya (31.9%), Jizzakh (31%), Khorezm (30.9%), Samarkand (29.9%), and Kashkadarya (28.2%) regions.

Meanwhile, a decline was recorded in Namangan (4.7%), Navoi (3.7%), and Andijan (3.4%) regions.

TRANSACTIONS WITH BANK ACCOUNTS

The number of interbank payment transactions amounted to 5,677.4 thousand, marking a decrease of 692.8 thousand transactions (-10.9%) compared to December 2024.

The number of banking operations declined across all 14 regions.

Inter-corporate banking transactions saw a reduction across all 14 regions compared to the previous month. The most significant declines were recorded in Kashkadarya (-33.4%), Samarkand (-29%), Namangan (-23.8%), Surkhandarya (-23.7%), and Syrdarya (-23.2%) regions.

ACTIVITY ON THE COMMODITY EXCHANGE

The exchange component of the BAI stood at 1.3334, indicating a 33.3% increase compared to the previous month. This growth was driven by a 3.8% rise in the average physical volume of goods purchased per transaction and a 62.8% increase in the number of deals.

The total turnover on the UzEx amounted to 6,174 billion soums, showing a 1.7% decline compared to the previous month.

BUSINESS ENTITY ACTIVITY

The component of active business entities stood at 1.0111, reflecting a 1.1% increase compared to the previous month. However, this indicator showed a moderate annual decline of 7.4% compared to the same period last year.

The number of active business entities increased by 5,559 compared to December 2024 (453,545 entities), reaching 459,104.

The number of large enterprises grew by 35.

The number of small businesses rose from 358,116 to 363,628, marking an increase of 5,512. The number of farms increased slightly from 91,752 to 91,764, up by 12. The total number of active large enterprises reached 3,712, an increase of 35 compared to December 2024.
