EU Approves Temu's Corrective Measures Following €200 Million Fine (European Commission)

The European Commission has approved measures proposed by Chinese online marketplace Temu to comply with the EU Digital Services Act (DSA).

Temu has committed to implementing five measures to prevent the sale of illegal products, covering risk assessment, effectiveness monitoring, moderation reviews, algorithm oversight, and prevention of violations. Temu will conduct an interim risk assessment within four months.

The European Commission previously fined Temu €200 million for inadequate oversight. Since July 2026, the EU has imposed a €3 customs duty on low-value parcels arriving through e-commerce platforms such as Temu, Shein, and AliExpress.

US Court Temporarily Blocks Pentagon Contract Restrictions on Alibaba (Reuters)

According to Reuters, a US federal court has temporarily blocked the enforcement of contractual restrictions linked to Chinese company Alibaba's inclusion on a list of companies suspected of cooperating with China's armed forces.

The restrictions prohibit US Department of Defense contractors from using lobbying firms that also represent Alibaba's interests.

The ruling temporarily allows Alibaba to use US lobbying firms that also work with Pentagon contractors. However, the company remains on the restricted list. BYD, DJI, and WuXi AppTec are also challenging similar restrictions in court.

Bank of Korea Warns of Potential Decline in Semiconductor Exports (Maeil Business Newspaper)

The Bank of Korea forecasts that South Korea's semiconductor exports could fall by $50–100 billion relative to the baseline forecast if major US technology companies slow their investment in artificial intelligence in 2027.

According to the Bank of Korea, weaker demand for chips could reduce South Korea's GDP growth by 0.4 percentage points. The scenario also assumes a 10% decline in semiconductor export prices. The main risk stems from the South Korean economy's heavy dependence on semiconductors, which account for nearly half of the country's exports.

Combined capital expenditures by Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Meta, and Oracle could increase from $80 billion in 2026 to $110 billion in 2027. However, uncertainty remains regarding future demand for AI technologies and semiconductors.
