The President of Uzbekistan noted the importance of strengthening the social protection of the population next year.
The adoption of the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On the Rights of Persons with Disabilities" in October this year contributed to the transition from the medical model of disability to the social model, which has been preserved in Uzbekistan since Soviet times (the Law will come into force on January 15, 2021). The essence of the social model of disability provides for the need to adapt society and the environment to people with disabilities, and lies in the desire to create a barrier-free environment in communication, education and training for people with disabilities.
The social model of disability is officially recognized at the state level in the USA, Great Britain and Sweden.
A new system of self-selection of prosthetic and orthopedic products and rehabilitation means will be introduced for the low-income population. About 50 thousand of our citizens will be able to use it. This will help improving the rights of persons with disabilities.
The scope of work to provide housing for low-income families will be expanded.
2.4 trillion Soums will be directed to 27 thousand families (2.5 times more than this year) to pay the down payment on mortgage loans and subsidize mortgage interest rates. This will be a logical continuation of the comprehensive measures taken to support low-income families and reduce poverty.
