Uzbekistan Going Heavy on Renewables

One of the key components of that deployment is a 1 GW solar photovoltaic program developed with the support of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The program is promoted by the Ministry of Energy (MOE), the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade (MIFT), and the Public-Private Partnership Development Agency under the Ministry of Finance (PPPDA).

The first solar photovoltaic PPP project in Sherabad as part of the 1 GW solar program was launched this year. A site situated in the Sherabad district of Surkhandarya region was selected for the construction of a photovoltaic station with a minimum capacity of 200 MW including a new 220 kV substation and a 52 km transmission line to connect to the Surkhan 220 kV substation. According to the MOE, 54 companies expressed interest.

According to the plan, another tender for a 300 MW facility in Sherabad will be launched next year followed by projects in south-western Uzbekistan.

The UK-based Invest In Network invites all the interested companies to take part in the Energy Talk dedicated to renewables developments in Uzbekistan and to hear from experts representing the Asian Development Bank, JinkoSolar, Centil Law Firm, and AmCham Uzbekistan.
