This week, a governmental delegation from the Republic of Uzbekistan is visiting the United Kingdom. The visit represents an important step toward strengthening international cooperation and sharing experiences between the two countries.
To showcase the results of ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan and enhance bilateral cooperation, an international roundtable was organized at Chatham House, the British Royal Institute of International Affairs.
The event was held with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
The event was attended by James Nixey, Director of the Eurasia Programme at Chatham House, researchers specializing in Central Asian countries, Annette Bohr and Kate Mallinson, as well as representatives of the UK’s official and expert circles.
Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Ravshan Usmanov, provided an overview of the wide-ranging reforms being implemented in the country, as well as the current state and prospects of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United Kingdom.
Obid Khakimov, Director of the CERR, presented an analysis of the socio-economic development of Central Asian countries, including Uzbekistan. His presentation covered topics such as the region’s trade and investment climate, new transport and logistics corridors, and the potential for utilizing energy resources.
Several key points were highlighted: the untapped potential of the region and new opportunities for cooperation, including with EU countries.
The event included discussions on the economic and technical features of trade routes connecting Central Asia and Europe, focusing on the "Trans-Caspian International Transport Route" and the "Southern Corridor."
Participants exchanged views on reforms undertaken by countries in the region to integrate their industrial sectors into the global value chain.
Additionally, evaluations of the effectiveness of Uzbekistan’s national model and social protection programs were presented, highlighting their role in achieving socio-economic stability.
The attendees expressed significant interest in the reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan, underscoring the importance of the Uzbek experience for the UK's political and economic circles.
At the conclusion of the event, representatives of Chatham House expressed their interest in further developing cooperation with analytical centers in Uzbekistan.
