On January 27, 2025, the CERR and IAMO formalized their partnership through the signing of an MoU in an online format. The agreement was signed by Prof. Thomas Herzfeld, Director of IAMO, and Dr. Obid Khakimov, Director of CERR, in the presence of representatives from Uzbek-German research institutions.
The MoU aims to enhance scientific cooperation, facilitate knowledge exchange, and support agricultural sector reforms.
In his remarks, Dr. Obid Khakimov emphasized that this partnership is especially relevant given Uzbekistan’s ongoing agricultural reforms, which focus on enhancing competitiveness and integrating innovative technologies into the sector.
Prof. Thomas Herzfeld highlighted that this collaboration represents an important step in strengthening ties between European and Uzbek think tanks. He added that joint efforts will enable the development of modern solutions to improve production efficiency and optimize agricultural policies.
The partnership envisions knowledge and experience exchange, joint organization of seminars and training programs for specialists, collaborative research initiatives and development of policy recommendations for the government.
These activities aim to implement advanced practices and technologies, creating more efficient and sustainable agri-food systems.
Both parties are confident that the cooperation will contribute to developing strategies for modernizing Uzbekistan’s agro-industrial complex, enhancing rural development and food security and improving the overall quality of life in rural areas.
For reference: IAMO is Germany’s leading research institute specializing in the study of economic transformation processes in agriculture and agri-food systems.
