This study is conducted to monitor changes in the share of the private sector in the structure of banking assets, as well as to assess the effectiveness of ongoing reforms and transformation processes in the banking sector of the country.
As of June 1, 2021, the assets of the banking system of Uzbekistan amounted to 395 trillion.soums (increase by 27.5% compared to June 1, 2020), liabilities - 333.6 trillion.soums (increase - 30.6%), total capital - 61.5 trillion.soums (increase by 13.1%). Currently, more than 56,000 people work in the banking system.
Banks are divided into two groups - large and small. The rating was created separately for each group.
Activity rating of large banks for the IInd quarter of 2021
Among the 17 largest banks, Kapitalbank has maintained its leadership since the second quarter of 2020.
Kapitalbank strengthened its position in the overall ranking and once again showed the highest results in terms of financial intermediation and asset quality. In particular, the ratio of time deposits of banks to the total volume of loans was 84%.
Hamkorbank took the 2nd place in the overall ranking, rising by 2 places compared to the first quarter of 2021. This was facilitated by the improvement of the bank's financial intermediation, asset quality and management efficiency.
Trustbank took a 3rd place in the overall ranking and lost one point. At the same time, this bank remains one of the leading banks in terms of capital adequacy, profitability and liquidity.
Among the largest banks with a state share, Aloqabank fell by 3 places to 6th place. The main reason for this was the increase in the share of non-performing loans of the bank and the volume of reserves for possible losses. Nevertheless, the bank is among the top five banks in terms of financial intermediation and capital adequacy.
"Asia Alliance Bank" and "Microcreditbank" lost 4 places in the overall ranking and took 9th and 12th place, respectively.
Activity rating of small banks in the Ist quarter of 2021
In the second quarter of this year, Davrbank, Universalbank and Ziraatbank took the first three places in the overall ranking of 14 small banks of Uzbekistan.
* According to the CERR methodology, management efficiency indicators are based only on quantitative indicators and as one of the indicators the bank's net profit/loss is divided by the number of bank employees. It should be noted that TBC and Anor Bank began operations in the fourth quarter of 2020 and are currently in the process of formation. Therefore, operating costs are expected to remain high until these banks fully adapt to the market.
