CERR Presents April Review of Uzbekistan’s Automotive Market

The Center for Economic Research and Reforms (CERR) has released its regular review of Uzbekistan’s automotive market.

In April, total sales of all motor vehicles reached 88.2 thousand units, representing a 1.9% decrease compared to the same period last year.

Since the beginning of the year, cumulative sales of all types of motor vehicles in the country amounted to 348.5 thousand units, up 4.1% year-on-year.

The strongest sales growth was recorded in Tashkent, where the market expanded by 11.8%, as well as in Fergana Region and Samarkand Region, where sales increased by 11.0% and 10.9%, respectively.

Primary Market Developments

In April, sales of new passenger cars totaled 24.9 thousand units, which is 3.6% lower than in April of last year.

At the same time, the bulk of sales was generated by domestically produced vehicles. Sales of newly manufactured local passenger cars reached approximately 21.3 thousand units in April, increasing by 4% year-on-year.

The slowdown in the primary market was mainly attributable to a decline in sales of foreign-made vehicles. Sales of new imported cars amounted to around 3.5 thousand units, down more than 32% compared to April of last year.

Secondary Market Developments

Sales of used passenger cars totaled 43.7 thousand units, which is more than 15% lower than in April of last year.

Electric Vehicle Market

In April, sales of electric vehicles reached 8.1 thousand units, nearly doubling compared to the same period last year. This segment continues to demonstrate the fastest growth among all passenger vehicle categories.

Year-on-year sales growth was recorded in almost all regions of the country. The only exception was Samarkand Region, where market activity declined by 34% compared to the previous year.

The largest volume of EV sales was recorded in Tashkent, where more than 5.56 thousand electric vehicles were sold. As a result, the capital accounted for approximately 70% of the country’s total electric vehicle market.

Among the regions, Tashkent Region and Fergana Region led in terms of sales volume, with 573 and 464 electric vehicles sold, respectively.
