In 2023, the Republic of Uzbekistan carried out trade relations with 198 countries of the world.

Tajikistan's share in Uzbekistan's foreign trade was 1.2% in total trade turnover, 2.5% in exports and 0.4% in imports.

In 2023, compared with 2022, the volume of mutual trade between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan increased by 11.8% and amounted to $756.8 million, including exports increased by 15.9% to $605.0 million, imports decreased by 1.8% to $151.8 million.

It should be noted that Tajikistan is one of the countries with which Uzbekistan has a trade surplus. In 2023, this figure in trade with Tajikistan amounted to $453.2 million.

Uzbekistan's exports account for 80% of the trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, and Tajikistan ranks 7th among the importing countries of Uzbek products in terms of its volumes.

The main export items of Uzbekistan to Tajikistan are: industrial goods – $153.7 million, chemical products – $90.0 million, fuel, lubricating oils and similar products – $74.5 million, food products – $51.9 million, machinery and equipment – $45.6 million, finished products – $35.6 million, non–food raw materials - $5.6 million, as well as services – $111.8 million.

Imports from Tajikistan to Uzbekistan are represented by the following products: industrial goods – $56.5 million, non–food raw materials – $47.6 million, fuel, lubricating oils and similar products – $19.7 million, food products – $4.7 million; chemical products – $3.3 million; machinery and equipment – $3.0 million, finished products – $1.3 million, as well as services – $5.4 million.

Bilateral trade between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan is carried out in a free trade regime in accordance with the intergovernmental Free Trade Agreement of 1996, with the application of exemptions stipulated in the Protocol on Exemptions from the Free Trade Regime to this agreement, which was signed in 2018.

The heads of state of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan previously set the task of bringing mutual trade turnover to $1 billion in the near future.
