Technological Modernization and Expansion of Metallurgical Production

The Head of State congratulated the plant’s employees, labor veterans, and international partners on this significant occasion.

It was noted that in recent years, Uzbekistan has consistently implemented large-scale reforms aimed at bringing the mining and metallurgical industry to a qualitatively new technological level.

Over the past ten years, the industry has attracted about $2 billion in foreign investment, and 31 major production facilities have been commissioned. Thanks to favorable conditions created for the private sector, the number of enterprises operating in the industry has exceeded 150.

During this period, the annual output of domestically produced metal products reached 3 million tons, valued at 23 trillion sums. By comparison, in 2016, the country produced 800,000 tons of metal products worth 1.5 trillion sums.

Previously supplying rolled metal products primarily to the construction sector, the industry now produces 80 new types of products for such rapidly developing sectors as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, the defense industry, and energy.

The President emphasized that the work of metallurgists plays an important role in shaping the modern image of New Uzbekistan, implementing large-scale development projects, and advancing various sectors of the economy.

It was noted that Uzbekistan plans to shift its economy toward a technology- and innovation-driven development model and increase gross domestic product to $240 billion by 2030.

Over the next five years, the country plans to attract $180 billion in foreign investment, implement $27 billion worth of social and industrial infrastructure projects, and construct apartment buildings designed to accommodate 800,000 families.

These ambitious goals will increase demand for metal products by 1.5 times compared with the current level.

In this context, particular attention was given to the role of the Uzbek Metallurgical Plant, whose close-knit and dedicated workforce numbers more than 5,500 employees.

The new casting and rolling complex will bring the plant’s efforts to introduce energy-efficient technologies and digital solutions, improve labor productivity, and enhance product quality to a new level.

The complex will go down in history as Uzbekistan’s first project to produce hot-rolled sheet products.

Once the complex is commissioned, it will produce 1 million tons of hot-rolled sheet products annually, with a total value of UZS 8 trillion. This will fully meet the demand of metallurgical plants in Tashkent and Samarkand for sheet products. In addition, 1,200 high-paying jobs will be created.

The Head of State expressed his gratitude to the builders and engineers, technologists and machine operators, workers and employees, labor veterans, and international partners who contributed to the construction of the complex.

During the ceremony, further plans for the development of the Uzbek Metallurgical Plant were also outlined.

It was emphasized that the top priority will be to meet the plant’s needs using domestically sourced raw materials. Uzbekistan has 1.5 billion tons of iron ore reserves.

Over the next three to four years, the commissioning of the Tebinbulak deposit is expected to increase annual steel production to 1 million tons.

The beneficiation of ore from the Surun-Ota deposit will enable the annual production of 600,000 tons of iron ore feedstock. A modern metallurgical plant worth $180 million will be constructed on the plant’s premises to process this material.

Over the next three years, $30 million will be invested in the phased modernization of steel ball production lines, increasing their annual capacity from 250,000 to 500,000 tons.

In addition, the Industrial Park for Environmental Technologies of Uzbekistan will be established on the plant’s premises.

As early as this year, six projects with a total value of $70 million will be launched in the industrial park to produce large-diameter pipes, overhead cranes, and filtration equipment. These projects will create an additional 660 high-paying jobs.

The President emphasized that metallurgy is a labor-intensive yet honorable industry and that the plant workforce’s hard and dedicated work deserves the highest respect and recognition.

It was noted that the knowledge, experience, and high level of professionalism of the plant’s specialists, rooted in a nearly century-old tradition of mentorship, serve as a worthy example for many workforces.

The Head of State then pressed a symbolic button to launch the new casting and rolling complex.

He also spoke with industry veterans, plant employees, and international partners.
